History, Purposes, Goals

The History of the WHNA:

While the developer of the subdivision recorded restrictions for each phase as it was developed, the West Highlands Homeowner’s Association (WHNA) was not established by the developers of West Highlands Subdivision, nor at the time of any of the Phases situated therein. Consequently, every lot within every phase of West Highlands Subdivision may not become a member of the proposed association and subject to the terms and conditions of the Articles of Incorporation of West Highlands Neighborhood Association, Inc. Our goal is to maintain the 75% of occupied homes; this can only increase as new members join. The WHNA membership 'runs with the land' so future home owners of current WHNA member homes will automatically become WHNA members. Eventually, hopefully, a 100% membership can be established.

The Purposes of the WHNA are:
To maintain the quality of the neighborhood without placing undue burden upon individual members. We want to provide a safe, pleasant atmosphere throughout the community and to protect property values of the homeowners who join.
To enforce community standards and restrictions as they exist in the Articles of Incorporation, Declaration and By-laws and current restrictions and covenants filed of record in the Offices of the Judge of Probate of Madison County Alabama.
To foster and encourage social interaction among all members, thereby creating a neighborhood environment where members share their personal experiences and leisure time in an enjoyable and responsible manner.
To provide information to its members; and to have members share information with each other to enhance the quality of life within the neighborhood.
To govern membership in a cost effective, efficient and constructive manner.

The Goals of the WHNA are:
To accomplish the purposes set out above in the least costly, least invasive and most efficient manner, while limiting liability exposure of the Association and its members.
To eventually unify and standardize all restrictions and covenants so that there is a single and identical set of restrictions and covenants applicable to all Phases in the Subdivision.
To compose and administer a unified Architectural Control Committee after all lots in the subdivision are improved with single family dwelling homes.
To achieve 100% membership from each lot owner in each and every Phase within West Highlands Subdivision.
To acquire, develop and maintain common areas for the beautification, recreation, enjoyment and common use of all members.
